Striving for a better agricultural environment

After school I did my national service in the Parachute battalion and then joined the mining industry as a learner official. I worked in mining production for 20 years doing mining and construction. At the age of 44 I moved into project planning which I still do as a consultant.

Throughout my mining career I spent every moment I was not working in the bush or on the water sailing a catamaran, we bought a smallholding outside Rustenburg where we now live and started with a greenhouse tunnel producing our own vegetables, planted fruit trees, started my rose garden which I love, and small succulent garden. Farming with free range chickens, ducks, rabbits, and pigs for healthy meat.

We set up our solar system to be independent living off the grid. My wife grew up on a farm and we both want to produce our own healthy food as far as possible. We went into overdrive with what it means to live a healthier lifestyle, getting rid of all the chemicals in our food.

This has now become a passion with me as I can see only the benefits of a cleaner healthier environment with an organic fertiliser and solar systems for electricity.
